Interview by Dom Vigil

Can you give us a little bit of background of Say Say, for our readers who may not be familiar?

We are a L.A. based duo and we like to create pop/dance/rock songs by mashing together electronic and acoustic instruments with hooky vocals and chorus' over top. We're not afraid to show our influences in our music and each song shines in it's own way by bringing those influences to light.

How did the two of you come to meet and start writing music together?

Adam: I had some female house guests that were friends with Jesse. He stayed at my place while first visiting L.A. and we found a lot of similarities in our upbringing and musical influences. However, there was a lot of music that we were able to show each other as well and a musical bond was formed almost more out of the differences than the similarities.

You’re releasing your EP, Prelude of a Dream on June 30th - can you tell us a little bit about it? What’s the underlying theme or message of Prelude of a Dream?

The title Prelude of a Dream comes from multiple places. We are in the introductory stages of Say Say and this is the opening of what will be multiple movements. Over the past year it's been an exciting time and there have been multiple moments of feeling like the things that we've dreamed about are becoming reality which in turn has made reality feel like a dream. It's a very inspiring feeling and we're only just getting started.

Was there anything you really wanted to be able to accomplish with the EP?

We don't really have an axe to grind or anything like that, so the music and direction was never set in a specific tone. It's really almost been a documentation of stories that come from multiple sources. I guess if we can say that we set out to do anything, it was to write as many hooks in each song as we could and push our musical boundaries further. We've been able to grow and become better musicians out of it all and that's what we'll continue to push for with each song, or album.

What do you hope listeners will be able to take away from Prelude of a Dream?

That's kind of the great thing about music, is that to each listener it represents something different. Whether they love it or hate it, we just want to make people feel whatever it is that the music inspires.

Lets talk about your single, “Like An Animal.” What’s the story behind this song?

"Like An Animal" acts as the foundation of Say Say. It was the first song that was written, even before we had the name of the band. The story came from looking at how humans become very animalistic in daily life. The simplest thing can turn us into a primitive form of ourselves. A "you and me" element needed to be added lyrically in order to have the song make sense, but the beginning of the song in its basic form comes from the lyric "you treat me just like an animal."

Do you have a favorite track on the EP?

Every song kind of represents it's own moment and memory of this journey. Multiple songs and ideas were written for the EP but these were the ones that we felt represent us right now. Like An Animal holds a very special place in our hearts and always will, simply because Say Say wouldn't exist had that song not been given life.

What would you like someone’s first impression of Say Say to be? What would you like them to take away from one of your shows?

First impressions are extremely important and we put a lot of value on that when we are working on the music and preparing it for a live setting. We don't put on a false face or persona at all, we're both very down to earth guys and we feel as though our music represents that very well.

After Prelude of a Dream drops, what is the rest of 2015 looking like for you guys? Do you have any other big plans in the works?

There's always things being planned behind the curtain days, weeks, months in advance. So yes, we have plans in the works and will be announcing more very soon. But for now our eyes are the June 30th and we need to get there first.
