Brooklyn native R&B singer Adrian Daniel strives to be the voice of his city, and with his soulful new single “Pride” out now, he’s already well on his way there. Not only does “Pride” tell the emotional story about the absence of a mother or father and how it can lead to the mistreatment of the person you love, but Daniel’s soulful vocals also shine through on the track, making it both a meaningful and very beautiful listen.
Listeners can hear “Pride” below and keep up with Adrian on social media for more updates.
Interview by Dom Vigil
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself for any readers who may not be familiar?
I’m a kid from East Flatbush Brooklyn, NY that’s a movie fanatic and loves anime and just about every comic ever.
What first inspired you to get involved with music? What continues to inspire you today?
It was my brother who inspired me to actually take music seriously. I always loved music and was learning how to sing since i was a little kid; My godfather was the late great jazz musician, Lionel Hampton, and he taught me how to play the xylophone when i was only 7. Everything inspires me to create music today but mostly my life and films.
How do you feel being based out of Brooklyn has affected your music or the subjects that you write about?
If it wasn’t for Brooklyn there would be no real in my music. Brooklyn gave me everything to talk about, it beat me down, literally, and picked me back up.
What would you like to bring to or do for the Brooklyn music scene?
There hasn’t been a male singer to come out of Brooklyn who was born and bred there since Maxwell and I intend to change that, and make a whole new wave of music that will inspire my city.
You recently released your new single, “Pride” can you tell us a little bit about this track?
“Pride” is about taking the pain from not having a mother or father and redirecting it towards someone you love.
Did you have any goals that you wanted to be able to accomplish when working on “Pride”?
I just wanted to tell a story that happened to be really personal to me. I love books and films and I look at music as sonic books or films that have to convey a feeling and a picture. That’s always my goal.
With “Pride” out now, can listeners expect any more new music soon?
Absolutely, I have a new album coming out very very soon that I can’t wait for everyone to hear.
What would you like listeners to be able to take away from your music or live performances? At the end of the day, what would you like to be known for?
When I listen to Michael jackson, Prince and Stevie wonder, my whole musical world is flipped around and i hear things I’ve never heard before. When i saw them live for the first time my whole world changed and i felt apart of something great. That’s what I want to be known for, I want to change everyone’s musical world and make them be apart of something great.
With the new year just starting, is there anything you’d like to be able to accomplish in 2016?
There so much I want to accomplish but the only thing i want to do right now is get the whole world to hear my stories and relate to them; From there i’ll take it one step at a time.
Thanks for talking with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Thank you for liking my stories and asking me to tell my story. Tell your friends about me cause i’m coming. Peace and Love.
