Q&A with Thayne Brown of Dear Tatiana
With their new EP, 95407 dropping in just a little under a month (April 15th), alt/hip-hop act Dear Tatiana are already starting 2016 off with a bang. Though the first song from the EP, "Staycation" isn't necessarily as explosive as this year promises to be, the mellow track is impossible not to fall in love with - not to mention, it'll make you wish it was summertime already. Read the full interview with the band and listen to "Staycation" below!

Can you tell us a little bit about Dear Tatiana for any readers who may not be familiar?
We’re a hip-hop band from Orlando, FL. We like a bunch of music and jump into the crowd when we play shows. We’re really inspired by Air Dubai and how they sound.
Your sound is a very unique blend of quite a few different genres, so who are some artists that have had a heavy impact on you musically?
Kanye has had a huge influence on our sound. Mainly the way he uses so many different elements of music that interests him. Not based on what the popular sound is. That's where our mindset comes from. But as far as the actual sound, that inspiration comes from all of the different types of music we listen to and bounce off of each other.
Being from Orlando, is there anything that you’d like to be able to bring to your local scene? How would you like your music to impact the scene?
Our goal within the scene is to bridge the gap between the different scenes. We want to everyone to come to our shows. We want the people that go to hip-hop shows and the people that go to Pop-punk/rock/indie shows to have a good time, so we built our show in a way that works for that. It’s really cool to see everyone getting along and having a good time. That’s what it’s all about!
You guys just recently released your new song, “Staycaytion.” Can you tell us a little bit about the track?
I’ve always wanted to produce a song like this! It has that Clean Bandit vibe that I really love! When I started writing the lyrics, I knew it had to be chill. So that’s what it’s about. Chilling with a person who you think is a fly individual and doing nothing but seeing sights and enjoying each other’s company. Sometimes, not even seeing sights or going anywhere just being around each other and going from there. It’s a favorite of mine!
With the release of “Staycaytion,” can listeners expect to hear some more new music soon?
For sure! We just released another single called “Millennial” and we’re releasing our EP “95407” in April! We’ve also still been writing and recording so there’s definitely still more music to hear from us for a while!
Do you have any goals or plans when working on new music?
Being better each time is really important to us. Whether that’s about quality, the experience, the live show, etc. We’re learning new stuff and hearing more music every day. So we always want to incorporate that in our music. I recorded and mixed our first EP in my apartment. This time around, I recorded some songs at home but also recorded at an awesome studio in Orlando called Studio 18 with Michael Cupp! He also did the mixing and mastering. So we’re always trying to sound better and we’re going to keep working on it.
What would you like listeners to be able to take away from your music or live performances?
We really hope people listen to our music and feel inspired to go do something. Whatever it is that’s on your mind 24/7, find a way to accomplish that. If you’re coming out to a show, just try to have fun! Move around and sing the lyrics. Let’s make it fun for everyone.
With “Staycaytion” out now and the new EP out soon, can we expect some upcoming shows or maybe tour dates in 2016? Do you have any big plans for the rest of the year?
We’re playing MindSpring Music Festival in St. Augustine, FL in April and Smashington Music Festival in Orlando in May. We’re planning on hitting the road heavy so definitely stay in touch. We’re also working really hard to get on Warped Tour this year too. That would be the dream come true!
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Thanks for having us! Don’t forget our new EP comes out on Thayne’s birthday April 15! Follow us on our socials and drop us a line so we can chat. If you like the music, we’d love to hear about it!
