Lost in Society Reflect on "Eager Heart" and Plan for the Future: "It Definitely Won't Be a Long Time Before Another Record Comes Out"
Lost In Society have returned with their new EP, Eager Heart and they're hell-bent on proving that they're here to stay. Having spent the last five years on the road, the band's Wiretap Records debut finds them at their best, and with more than six months left in 2018, this certainly won't be the last we hear from Lost In Society this year.
The band recently wrapped up a short run of tour dates and are in the midst of planning out the rest of their year. Until they (inevitably) hit the road once more, give Eager Heart a listen and read about what the band has been up to below.
Interview by Dom Vigil
Can you tell us a little bit about Lost In Society for any readers who might not be familiar?
We’re just 3 morons trying to balance a regular life while attempting to obtain a ridiculous dream we’ve had since we were teenagers. It’s as simple as that.
You guys just released your new album, Eager Heart! What are you the most excited for listeners to hear on this release?
I think we are just really excited about the songs in general. I believe it is the best batch of songs we have strung together so far. We really took our time with this EP and the writing process, so I really hope it shows. I think old fans will dig it, and it will also attract some people who haven't heard of us yet. It was a really fun record to make and I hope that comes through in the recordings.
It being your debut release on Wiretap Records, were there any big goals you wanted to accomplish with this release?
I think the main goal after such a long interval between releases is just to get back on the horse. Really push this EP and show that we have a lot left in the tank and we aren't going anywhere. Wiretap has been awesome so far and its been great bouncing different ideas off of each other.
Emotionally, was there anything you wanted to touch on with Eager Heart that you haven’t had the chance to do before?
I think with "Stop Me Again" I wrote from a more personal level than I was ever really comfortable with before. Kind of looking at my life in retrospect and how I was kind of a mess for a little while. Nick looked at me after he heard the lyrics for the first time and was like "woah" with a kind of "holy shit" look. The other songs fall more in line with how I tend to write, which is from somebody else's point of view.
You recently released “Creature” from the album. Can you tell us a little bit about this track? What inspired it?
This one is just a fun ripper song for us. We made it really simple, and just tried to add a hook. It was one of those songs I sat down and was finished writing within 10 minutes. Again, this song isn't from my perspective. It's just about some washed up punks wondering if it was all worth it.
How do you feel you’ve grown as musicians with the writing and recording of Eager Heart?
I think with every release we become a more cohesive group. Everyone tends to bring more ideas to the table, and be more open to changes. As we continue the writing process we have really started to figure out what to focus on, and what may be a waste of time.
With the album out now, do you have any shows coming up or plans to hit the road?
We just wrapped up a 10 day tour down to Florida and back. We are lining some other stuff up for the summer and fall as well. West Coast, and then a quick run down the The Fest in Gainesville. You can check the cities and dates on all of our social pages @lostinsociety or lostinsociety.com
Do you have any other big plans or goals for 2018?
We actually have an entire full-length record all set to go. 8 of the songs are recorded, and we just need to hop back in for a few more, so it definitely won't be a long time before another record comes out. We don't want to have another long drought like last time. Aside from that, we just want to hit the road, promote the record and drink some beer with our fans.
