What first inspired you to get involved in music? What continues to inspire you today?

I saw my dad playing guitar when I was a little kid.  It looked fun so I tried it and hated it. 1 year later I tried it again and have played just about every single day since.

Making music is how I internalize the things around me, good and bad.  Aside from that I love the challenge of starting from 0 and trying to make something meaningful.  Usually I lose that game, but every once in a while I catch one and it feels so good.

The past year has been really busy for you, from moving to LA to signing to Interscope to releasing your debut single. What have been some of the highlights of the past year for you?

Yeah it’s been a super awesome year.  The Alec Benjamin tour was the craziest part for sure.  Getting to play these songs for people and watch them react to them in real time was so special for me.  I also got to meet a ton of awesome people after the shows who quickly went from fans to friends.

Back in April, you released your single, “When I Die,” which I believe is something a lot of people think about, whether they want to admit it or not. What inspired this track?

I just really wanted to do a song that put a positive spin on death.  I think about death often, but to me “When I Die” is more about life than death.  It’s about wanting to get the most out of life and being the best person that I can be.

The video is also really creative as well! How did that concept come about?

Thank you! I started the idea with my friend Ethan Newmyer, and then fleshed it out and directed with my friend Kenny Okagaki.  I’m really lucky to have incredible talented and creative friends.

On top of “When I Die” and “Dirty AF1s,” you just released your new single, “Mars” as well. Can you tell us a little bit about this new song?

“Mars” is about feeling inadequate in a relationship.  Feeling like no matter what you do it’s never enough. It’s about a relationship I had that ended a while ago that I am really only just now starting to be able to write about.

These new songs are a preview of your upcoming debut solo release. What are you most excited for fans to hear on the upcoming release?

I’m excited to hear themselves through my voice.  I’m excited for them to hear my stories and draw parallels to their own lives.  I’m excited for them to feel less alone.

When can fans expect to hear more new music?

Soon and often!  Steady flow of music coming for the foreseeable future.

You recently just finished up a run of tour dates with Alec Benjamin, too! Do you have any plans to hit the road again soon?

Working on some cool stuff now :)

Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?

If you’re reading this call someone you love who you haven’t talked to in a while!
