Spooky Cool Share New Single, "Black Wine"
Richmond-based five-piece Spooky Cool have released their new single “Black Wine” from their upcoming debut EP Every Thing Ever, slated for release on August 3rd via Citrus City Records. About the track, frontman Zac Hryciak comments: “In keeping with the dreamy, apocalyptic aesthetic of the rest of the record, Black Wine explores some of my earliest experiences with existential dread. My childhood, comfortable and banal as it was, still holds some great, inscrutable revelations in retrospect. There is still much thematic material to explore there."
“Black Wine” follows the release of “Old Hair Mine” and “Strange Rooms” - all included on the upcoming EP. Every Thing Ever is a kaleidoscopic five-track collection that fuses post-punk and metal-fuzz influences and is a testament of the band’s distinct artistry and sophisticated musicianship. Recorded with Michael Satterfield, mixed by Collin Pastore (Lucy Dacus), and mastered by Jett Galindo (First Aid Kit, Moon Taxi), the subject matter seamlessly pivots from matters of inebriation and sexual insecurity to grand abstractions like good and evil.
Spooky Cool is made up of Zac Hryciak (lead vocalist, guitarist), Lee Spratley (drummer), Sean Williams (bassist), Paula Lavelle (vocalist), and Zavi Harman (lead guitarist). Founded in 2015, the band quickly made a name for themselves in the local Richmond scene, playing with the likes of Lucy Dacus, J.Roddy Waltson, Girlpool, Post-Animal, and Palm. With their new EP, Spooky Cool unflaggingly mixes the mundane with the extraordinary.
