The Coolies, which combined the late Kim Shattuck (frontwoman of The Muffs and longtime bassist of The Pandoras) with Melanie Vammen (also of The Pandoras and formerly of The Muffs) and Palmyra Delran (solo artist and The Friggs guitarist), announced a third pressing of their debut benefit EP Uh Oh It’s… The Coolies! following the passing of bandmate, Kim Shattuck. PRESS HERE to order the record and HERE to listen. Kim, known throughout the pop-punk community for her fierce creative spirit, passed away on October 2 due to complications from ALS without ever disclosing that she was battling the disease.
The three BFFS formed The Coolies to raise funds for The ALS Association Golden West Chapter, whose mission is to discover treatments and a cure for ALS, and to serve, advocate for, and empower people affected by ALS to live their lives to the fullest. Backed by Little Steven Van Zandt and released via his record label Wicked Cool Records, 100% of the proceeds from record sales are being donated to The ALS Association, with the first two pressings of the 10″ green vinyl selling out almost immediately. The third pressing will be on red vinyl as a tribute to Kim and her fight with the horrific disease.
The six-song EP features Kim’s last recordings, all written by Kim in her signature sarcastic yet jubilant tone, with Melanie co-writing “Ignoramus” and Palmyra collaborating with her to pen “Blueberry Crumble.” Forming The Coolies provided a creative outlet for Kim, and continuing to raise awareness about the disease brought her an immense amount of happiness during a time when she was fighting her own personal battle.
“We’re incredibly touched and grateful to see all the beautiful memories, tributes, and photos of Kim that have been shared. We’re also super proud of The Coolies project that the three of us worked on together, along with the Wicked Cool Records team,” said bandmates Melanie and Palmyra. “We’ve received overwhelming requests for more copies of the vinyl EP that was released in July, which has sold out two pressings. Since then, 100% of the proceeds have been donated to The ALS Association Golden West Chapter, totaling close to $10,000. There will now be a third pressing on the way, and we’re looking forward to raising even more money for research for treatments and a cure for ALS. Thank you to all who donated.”
