Kumari played “KARMA” earlier today during the first-ever episode of her Beats 1 show, “The New India,” on Apple Music. The song, produced by Sean Garrett, packs a passionate and powerful punch locked and loaded with robust rhymes and fierce delivery over a throwback beat with international resonances.
“The New India,” which will have more episodes announced soon, finds Raja Kumari showcasing a new wave of talent that she is at the forefront of, bringing artists from Mumbai to New Deli to the global stage. Catch the premier episode HERE.
Beyond “KARMA,” BLOODLINE boasts the recent single “SHOOK.” Not only did its music video amass three million views to-date, but it also earned acclaim, with TIME Magazinecommending it as a song that “drips with blustering self-assuredness.” The five track EP features an eclectic take on hip hop and world music, with highlights like the Hindu-flavored island swooning of “ROBIN HOOD” and dark soul duet “BORN HUSTLA” [feat. Janine The Machine]. Along with Sean Garrett, the EP also includes production work from Danja. Check out the full tracklisting below.
About the project, she said, “BLOODLINE asks the question, “Who are you?” It’s not just about your family line or your heritage. WHO ARE YOU? What runs through your veins and what are you willing to fight for? This collection of songs was inspired my time in India. I found strength in the Motherland, and these battle anthems are my story, my bloodline.”
Additionally, Raja Kumari is set to play a series of live shows surrounding the EP’s release. She will headline The Roxy in Los Angeles on February 19 before joining acclaimed artist MNEKon a series of dates across both coasts. Known for her high-energy performance skills, The Los Angeles Times recently commended her live show at the 2019 Women’s March, exclaiming that Raja “enraptured the audience through her blend of Indian music with hip hop.” Find full tour dates below.
