Since the release of their critically-beloved 2016 debut EP, Give It Up, Goldensuns have grown from one of Los Angeles’ best kept secrets to a band on the verge of national acclaim. With a cumulative 2.1 million Spotify streams on the four tracks from Give It Up, fans have anxiously awaited what the trio would follow it up with. That wait came to an end today with the release of “Shook”, a hazy array of thoughtfully arranged synths and melodic guitars centered around a dreamy bassline and laid back percussion perfect for anchoring your summer playlists.
“Shook” debuted this past weekend on the world famous KROQ to the delight of fans and new listeners alike. Today, the single was unveiled to a wider audience in the form of an official video composed of warm, grainy footage from the band’s busy touring schedule and adopted hometown of Los Angeles. The video creates the same sort of deceptively vibrant, vintage feel that has made Goldensuns’ music so in demand. Along with the new music came the announcement that Goldensuns will be releasing their sophomore EP “Denandra” later this year.
Originally hailing from Salt Lake City, Utah, Goldensuns was formed by the Meier brothers – Chase (vocals/bass), Jantzen (guitar) and Weston (drums) – upon arriving in Los Angeles in 2014. Their debut EP, Give It Up, has only grown in popularity since it’s 2016 release and has been featured by tastemakers in the world of press (#1 on IndieShuffle.com, Consequence of Sound, Nerdist), radio (KCRW, KROQ) and Spotify (US Viral 50, Undercurrents, Viral Hits, Fresh Finds) alike. They recently wrapped a national tour supporting Warpaint and have also supported Saint Motel, Lydia, The Radio Dept. and Maps & Atlases on stage.
“Shook” comes just one day ahead of their next LA gig on May 24th at The Moroccan Lounge with SWIMM and Bright Light Social Hour. The show is almost sold out, but the few remaining tickets can be purchased here. Stay tuned for more information on Goldensuns and their upcoming EP, Denandra, as they continue to release new music this summer.
